Welcome to the ‘Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) Information Report for West End Primary School.

SEND can be an emotive area, which causes much anxiety and concern. We hope that this document will help alleviate some of this by providing you with useful information about our school ethos, and what we can offer as a school and local authority, in addition to some useful information. If you have any information you feel could be included for others or you need further information from us please contact us. We are always keen to hear your views.

West End Primary School is committed to providing an appropriate and high quality education to all the children living in our local area. We believe that all children, including those identified as having a special educational need or a disability (SEND), have an entitlement to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum, which is accessible to them. We strive to ensure that all pupils are fully included in all aspects of school life.

We believe that all children should be equally valued in school. We will strive to eliminate prejudice and discrimination, and to develop an environment where all children can feel safe and flourish academically, physically and socially.

West End Primary School aims to include everyone and values diversity. We aim to engender a sense of community and belonging. We want all of the children in our community to do well through having access to appropriate, high-quality education. This does not mean we treat all children the same, but rather that we respond to children in ways that take account of their varied needs and life experiences.

When our children have medical issues which may affect their educational needs, struggle with learning or experience difficulties with communication, physical development, making sense of the world around them it can be very frightening and confusing. Parents and carers often worry about how they will make sure their child gets the right services and support.

"Leaders and staff know pupils very well and provision for these pupils is personalised to meet their individual needs."  Independent SEND Review Report  by Christine Inkster (HMI) on behalf of Northumberland County Council. November 2016

If you are concerned that your child may have a Special Educational Need and/or Disability please talk to your child's class teacher in the first instance. They may be contacted through the school office or via e-mail at admin@westend.northumberland.sch.uk. They will then discuss with you whether the school SENCo - Mrs McLeod needs to be involved.
